Each paddler is required to have a life vest (United States Coast Guard approved Personal Flotation Device) in his/her possession while in a canoe or kayak. Paddlers 14 years of age or younger are required to wear a vest. All vests are to be appropriate for
age, size and weight of paddler, in good condition (no duct tape to cover rips) and to be worn as the manufacturer intended. One sounding device (whistle) is required per boat. (USCG and USCA rule.) If water conditions warrant, the race sponsor may require that a life vest be worn during the entire race.
Effective at the 2002 Nationals, paddlers in the Open (18-39 age group) in the C-2 Men, Women and Mixed events may use either the USCA competition cruiser or the Expert canoe. Canoes may be decked at Nationals only. |
