7/29/08 - The following is a link to a video of the Mio Dam Portage at the 2008 AuSable River Canoe Marathon. The video shows Ohio paddler, Ray Bauer and his partner, along with other teams portaging the Mio Dam - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0bhDU1mwRc .
7/29/08 - One of the people I spoke with at the 2008 AuSable River Canoe Marathon was the 1967 and 1968 winner of the race Stan Hall. He won back then with Ralph Sawyer. He recalled coming down to the Little Miami River in Ohio and racing around that time. A marina helped cover the expenses of that team's trip to Ohio. Do any Ohio paddlers recall racing against him?
7/29/08 - Congratulations to the Ohio paddlers who competed in and finished the AuSable River Canoe Marathon. Ray Bauer finished 35th with his partner Shaun Koos from Washington. The Ohio team of Andy Tenbusch and Skip Conant placed 57th overall.

6/22/08 - Results for the Scenic Scioto Canoe & Kayak Fest are now posted on the Results page. The race conditions were sunny, but windy. The course was a shortened 2 lap race on the O'Shaughnessy Reservoir.
6/15/08 - The Dayton race saw high water conditions this year that forced a change in the course. Instead of the usual trip up the Great Miami River past I-75 and the railroad trestle and up the Stillwater River, the course stayed on the Great Miami River with the buoy turn before the I-75 bridge. The high water made for a fast trip downstream and required the racers to stay close to the shore on the trip upstream to avoid the current. Dan Mecklenburg jumped out to an early lead in the C1 race, but Roland Muhlen managed to reel him in. At the finish, Dan was able to beat Roland around the last buoy turn and outsprint him to the line for the win. Behind the lead duo there were a number of other close races. Kayaker Joe White finished ahead of Jack Kangas in his C1. Myself (P.C. Randolph) and Dave Landenwitch traded places numerous times during the race. I was a little faster upstream and on the buoy turns, but he was faster downstream. In the end I was able to open a lead on the upstream leg and hold him off on the trip back down to the finish. Behind us was a battle between kayaker Larry Landis, Phil Randolph, and Bob Sadosky. Phil missed the buoy turn on the first upstream turn and had to chase to catch back up. In the end Larry Landis held off the other two paddlers, with Phil able to beat Bob around the buoy turn and to the finish.
Results for the race are posted on the Race Results page.
